February 2 Update

February 2nd, 2007

Today we had another post surgery doctor’s visit. There is still no major change. There is still blood in the eye and the pressure is not as high as they would like. We have to continue with the drops and Jim was told to spend most of the time sitting up. The doctors want to see him again on Monday to monitor that there is no infection or further bleeding. They say that healing will take time since there was serious trauma to the eye and that there are no magic drops so we just have to hang in there.

Post-operation checkup update - Jan 31

February 1st, 2007

Well - somewhat depressing - Daddy went for the checkup and there’s no change. But there is still some blood that needs to be reabsorbed, so the next appointment is Friday morning. In the meantime, he’s chilling out and resting at Uncle Teddy’s in West Palm Beach. Mummy is back online there as well, so she can be contacted by email.

Jan 30 - pos-surgery update

January 30th, 2007

Mummy spoke to the sugeon as he came out of the Operating Room - everything went well - they got out most of the blood and stuff in the eye. They took out the lens. There is no detached retina (Good News!). They also took out a cataract that we didn’t even know was in there! So… more later.

Update Jan 29th

January 29th, 2007

So - the operation is tomorrow, Tuesday. They will operate on the eye first, and only after that is stable and recovered, will the plastic surgeons take a look. So - the schedule will be - surgery tomorrow. Overnight in Miami. Post-operative visit Wednesday. Up to Uncle Teddy’s house on Wednesday night for a week recuperating. Back to Miami for post -op checkup. Hopefully, back to Trinidad just in time for Carnival.  (we’ll have to see about flights). Then back up in about a month or so to deal with the additional facial surgery, the eyelids, etc.

Update Jan 28th

January 28th, 2007

So they are in Miami. Flight was good, wheelchair transportation was very good. Mummy and Daddy are in the Days Inn at the hospital until Tuesday, but Internet access is spotty. Mummy has not got all the phone numbers of everyone that she would like to contact, so here is the cell phone contact for her (especially Claudette) 561-502-2640.

The first consultation is tomorrow morning, so when I get more news, I’ll let you all know.

Update Jan 24

January 24th, 2007

Ok - so we got the appointment in Miami. It’s on Monday at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami School of Medicine (http://www.bpei.med.miami.edu/). They will have to do 2 operations - one for the eye and one for the facial bones. So he’s expecting to stay in Miami for 3 weeks (that means coming back Carnival Monday or Tuesday!) Mummy will go with him, as I’d probably lose my job if I left the country at our busiest time :)

So we will continue to update.

Update Jan 23

January 23rd, 2007

It’s been a while, but not much has been happening. But on Thursday Daddy came down to Bishops School where I was preparing for our All-INclusive Carnival Fete, for Mummy to collect some tickets - his companion at home had gone home already, and he couldn’t stay alone while Mummy cam edown to town. So he sat and loads of people visited with him.

Then today, after going to the doctor, he wanted to go to the opening at the Horizons Art Gallery  - he sat and spoke to people. Couldn’t see the art, of course, not yet.

So he’s getting stronger, getting out and about. Unfortunately he may have to go abroad for surgery for his remaining eye, but we will find out about that when it’s set up.

Update Jan 7

January 7th, 2007

Thursday Daddy decided to attend the launch of the Arrive Alive campaign. It’s a campaign to reduce road injuries and fatalities. Also supporting the campaign were a load of soca stars, like 3canal, Rikki Jai, Maximus, Machel, Alison Hinds, Destra, Fireball, Iwer, Patrice Roberts. So Daddy was on TV with Alison Hinds apparently - CNC channel 3. It was cool in that he managed to stay for the whole event (aout 90 mins)

And then on Friday we had a visit to the eye specialist, who wasn’t very positive, I thought. So we arranged to see the original doctor again as a private patient this time and Saturday he went for a very long and thorough examination, which was far more positive. He managed to correctly identify movements. We now have a lot of info and exercises to to do with the eye, and there’s some hope.
